No
news is good news. Or at least, it's not bad news.
I've
wrapped up the last of my shows here on the Mainland. Very stange
to be sitting here with no new bookings to put on the calendar.
This is bound to change once we get settled in to our new place
in Victoria, but for now I need to sit with my uncertainty.
I've been
in such a comfortable rut living and playing in and around Vancouver.
I know the venues. I know the people. I know what to expect and
how many fans will be in the audience. I know the press that'll
ignore me and the the press that might pay some attention. I know
my peers and have a community of them I can celebrate and commiserate
with.
So
why pick up and move now? Now when everything is steady and I've
found my footing here again? All I can say is that life has pulled
me in that direction. I do hope that shaking things up will help
me get some new songs out. A new place, a new perspective... that
sort of thing. And I also hope that this move will force me to work
hard to establish a new audience. It's very motivating. I barely
know anyone over there, but I've had one good review and one good
show and I'm going to build on that. And rebuild the studio. That's
going to be hard to pack up.

Hey Folks! Just
wanted to let you know that my showcase for the Western Canadian
Music Awards Festival has been rescheduled. (The venue we were originally
supposed to perform at apparently closed down or some such thing.)
So now we'll be playing at the Marriott Hotel. Details are in the
Gigs section. No cover charge on this one
so please come down and support the band and I!

It's been hard
not to feel deep, dark blue over the images and stories that are
still pouring in from New Orleans. It's such a completely helpless
feeling I have. All I can do is try and raise some funds to go to
the relief effort and hope, hope, hope that in some small way it
helps.
I've always
intended get get back down there someday and record. Just rent a
flat for a while, bring some gear and set up a makeshift studio
there for a while. Although we brought our cameras last time around,
I really wished we had brought a portable device so that we could
have captured the sounds of the place... the birds and people and
music and boats. It seems a long way off now...
I, like many
other artists on cdbaby.com,
have offered up the full proceeds of my sales there to the Red Cross.
Over and above that, half the proceeds from my live sales, retail
and web orders from this site will be donated as well.
I've
put up the full length version of House of the
Rising Sun on this site, as well as made it available for download
on myspace.com.
I hope that by giving this song away, I can interest some of you in
buying an album so inspired by New Orleans. Please help me help them.

Where does the
time go? sorry about the lack of updates here! I've been working
behind the scenes on lots of interesting little possibilities. Some
of which have fallen through, and others that are happily moving
forward. Two great things: GWG Vol III looks like it will be released
on October 4th, so stay tuned! I'm going to be on there with some
fabulous ladies like Coco Love Alcorn and Green Tara. Very excited!
Also,
we landed a showcase at the Western Canadian Music Awards! We're not
up for an award this year because ANY GIVEN NIGHT
was released a little too late in the season, but I'm really looking
forward to having a gig and attending the conference. Who knows...
maybe we'll be nominated next year!
So, I've been
busy wrapping my head around getting over the border next spring
and heading down the coast to California. I'll let you in on the
dats just as soon as I can. In the meantime we're heading over to
Vancouver Island for a couple of shows to cap off the summer. I
hear a TV show over there was plugging our upcoming show this Saturday
so hopefully we'll bring in a nice crowd. Mostly, I just want to
sit on my parents' porch and get out the new songs I've been feeling
brewing interenally for some time.
Well,
I best go get some sleep... be in touch!
Kristia
Well
hello! I'm finally recovered from the release party last week. It
went so well! Sadly, it was so busy that people were being turned
away at the door, so if you were not able to make it in, my sincere
aplogies!
I've been recovering
from a bit of a cold this week. I'm trying to rest up and get myself
ready for our show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre next Friday. It's
been a while since I've played such a large venue, so I'm really
very excited about being on that stage.
Things
are progressing nicely with the CD. It looks like one of the songs,
"Sweet Sugar Honey Bee" is being picked up for the next
Grrls with Guitars complilation CD which will be distributed by Maximum/Universal.
Nadine from Grrls with Guitars gave me my very first opportunity to
play the Railway Club. I was busking outdoors on a cold night on Granville
Street years ago. She heard me as she left the Commodore that night
and the rest as they say, is history.
I've just booked
a great night at the Backstage Lounge a month from now, on July
17th. I hope you'll get a chance to join us at this great venue!
xoxox,
LOTS
going on these days! I'm not even sure where to start. I've been spending
most of my energy gearing up for the CD release party coming up on
June 10th, but we'll get to that in a moment.
I've got some
great news, first! CBC Radio has agreed to pick ANY GIVEN
NIGHT up for national airplay! I got this great email from
them expressing that they enjoyed my submission. I sent out a box
of CDs to their main music resources department and I'm just sitting
around on pins and needles hoping to hear myself on air at some
point.
I
spent last weekend on Vancouver Island trying to drum up some interest
in a little tour over there. If you're from the island and would like
to see me play at your favourite venue, email me! I'll see what I
can do. Watch the Gigs page for info on the
upcoming tour.
I'm dying to
tell you about the mystery guest who will be opening for us at the
CD release party. Dying, I tell you! You just have to come down
to the Montmartre Cafe and find out for yourself. The whole band
will be there too... all the wonderful folks who contributed their
talents to the project.
We'll be handing
out beautiful black paper fans (autographed, of course!) to the
first 50 "fans" who show up to the party. You'll need
them! It's going to be a night of VERY sultry music... any given
night...
I really do
hope to see you there!

Hello.. hello...
it's been busy in my little corner of the world! I've been working
on getting orders out as well as getting packages to radio and media
sent off into the great unknown. Feedback is starting to trickle
in and I want to thank all of you who have given me such great reactions
to ANY GIVEN NIGHT!
Still
haven't ordered your copy yet, because you don't want to order through
Paypal? I've got a solution for you! The CD is now for sale on CD
Baby.com. They are a great company if you haven't purchased from
them before. I know you'll be happy with their service. Go take a
look!
Some exciting
news... The CD Release Party is set for June 10th! This is going
to be a full band show at the Cafe Montmartre - my favourite little
music haunt in Vancouver. More details are in the Gigs
section.
I
hope you're all well!

Hey... a couple
of things that might be of interest...
I
was featured on another podcast. Take a wander over to www.tartanpodcast.co.uk
to take a listen. Thanks so much to Mark for having me on the show!
I was asked
yesterday how one could get a copy of Any Given Night without a
credit card. I am very happy to do mail orders. Either print out
this order
form.pdf, or write me a letter with the requested info
on it. I love getting something other than bills in the mail.
I'm
so happy to be able to tell you... ANY GIVEN NIGHT
has arrived! The boxes of them showed up yesterday after a few days
of nervous crankiness on my part. I've realized I'm not the most patient
of people. But all my angst dissolved when I took that first jewel
case out of the box. What an amazing feeling... accomplishment. And
even if you don't buy it, I'm bloody proud that I did it!
But don't let
me talk you out of a purchase. I still want you to have it. Starting
in the next few weeks ANY GIVEN NIGHT will be available
to order through CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes as well as record retailers
in Canada such as HMV and Chapters. If you just can't
wait until then, you can order them right here at kristia.com either
through Paypal or mail order.
Curious
as to what the music is all about? I had the great honour of being
interviewed by C.C. Chapman for his Accident
Hash podcast last week. We had a great conversation and he played
lots of tracks off the album. You can listen to Episode #13 featuring
me here.
To those of
you that have pre-ordered ANY GIVEN NIGHT, I owe
you such thanks. You made finishing this project possible for me
and you should be so proud for supporting independent music. I love
you all dearly and I'm busy stuffing envelopes with CDs and a great
feeling of gratitude.
I
will be in touch about details for the Vancouver CD release party
coming up in a few weeks.
In
just a little over a week copies of ANY
GIVEN NIGHT
will arrive! I'll post more soon but in the meantime take a wander
over to the Music section for some brand
new clips from the album. Thank you all for your support and kindness
as I get this project out in the world!

Well, I have
news about a CD release. But not the one you're expecting!
STAND
is a compilation CD of local BC musicians to raise funds to support
people living in poverty and those working on poverty issues. Celtic,
opera, punk, folk and jazz make up this unique CD from musicians UHF,
The Rebel Spell, Newspeak, North Shore Celtic Ensemble, Fabiana Katz,
Pauline Le Bel, Ryan Andrew Murphy, Greg Kelly, J. Knudson, The Coquiltam
Celtic Ensemble, Miranda Frigon and me!
If you're intersted
in learning more about The Fulcrum Project and the work they are
doing, please visit their site at www.thefulcrumproject.org.
The CD is available for purchase on their site or on mine in the
Store section.
Update
on ANY
GIVEN NIGHT:
So far, it looks like it's going to be here a week later than I had
planned. So for those kind souls that have pre-ordered, fear not.
I'll get here soon. I do apologize for the wait. I'm aiming to mail
them out to you by the middle of April or earlier if at all possible.
Thanks to all of your for support and patience!
In other news,
I've been busily booking shows. Next Friday night I'll be playing
the Montmatre Cafe in Vancouver with Yael
Wand and guests. Saturday afternoon Joyelle
and I will be doing a set at the Port Moody Festival of the Arts.
Details of these shows and others on the horizon are in the Gigs
section.
I
will be back with news about the release of ANY
GIVEN NIGHT. I'm
planning a very fabulous saucy-lady, slow dance party in celebration
of this recording. I'll let you know more just as soon as I can.
It's....
DONE. Can you believe it? I certainly can't. For years I've said I'm
going to do another one, but I haven't thought much past having it
done. It's such an odd feeling. Granted, there are still a few details
I need to take care of before I have ANY
GIVEN NIGHT
printed and packaged and in my hands, but it's all recorded now. My
baby has been mastered, the graphics will be finalized today and next
week it's off to get pressed.
I can't wait
until you hear it!
Well,
folks... we're getting close. Now that I know this project actually
is going to end I have an offer to make. This is a chance to help
get some independent music out in the world and get your name in print
at the same time. Ever dreamed of becoming a patron of the arts? Dear
ones, here is your chance.
If you pre-order
your copy of ANY
GIVEN NIGHT
before March 11th, I will make sure you are credited in the liner
notes of this album and you will be among the first to receive it
in April... signed, of course. If you buy 2 or more albums, your
order will arrive with a full-colour glossy poster.
You will also
receive my eternal gratitude. Your help and encouragement is making
my dream of ANY
GIVEN NIGHT
possible.All
ordering information is now on the Store
page. Thank you!
In other news
here at kristia.com, "Leslie" is now up in the Music
section. Please check it out and let me know what you think. This
is one of my favourite tunes from the upcoming CD. Enjoy!
Spring
is going to be busy performance-wise. Please check the Gigs
section regularly, as I'm adding to it often. If you're in BC or Alberta
and have any suggestions of venues you'd like to see us at, do let
me know. There are rumours of hitting the road this summer...
Kristia
I
have news! Really! Well almost, but I think it's safe enough to tell
you that the CD is almost complete. We have one more weekend of tracking
and then we're done. And yes, you did read that right. CD not EP.
We decided to push through and do a full length release. There will
be 13 tracks on ANY GIVEN NIGHT. 11 orginals and
two covers that I'm quite excited about.
Over the next
couple of weeks as the artwork for the ANY GIVEN NIGHT
is completed you'll see some changes around here at Kristia.com.
At that time I'll post more info about the CD, how to get your name
in the liner notes and some sample mixes of the tunes.
The
release is scheduled for some time in April. More details to follow!
